Writing A Research Paper Introduction On Immigration

Like any topic that deals with the lives of people, immigration is a complex one to write upon. In fact, debates on the matter have been two sided. One talks about giving immigrants a chance at life while the other says that they would not modify their rules to fit the needs of a minority. Therefore, writing a research paper on immigration can be quite difficult. Here are some tips.

Writing a research paper introduction on immigration

  1. Choose an angle
  2. There are various angles that you can look at immigration from. Do you want to analyze the political implications of immigration? Does the effect of immigration on economy interest you? Are you interested in the social aspect of the act? The narrower your topic is, the better. Thus, before you begin writing your paper, discern which stand you want to take and make it clear in your introduction.

  3. Choose a side
  4. Are you on the side of the immigrant or the country receiving them? There are plethoras of ways from which immigration can be analyzed, and each has its own pros and cons. If you want to look at how immigration is a growing problem and needs to be curbed, you should include the same in the introduction. On the other hand, if you think that immigration is sometimes the only option left to survive and that the laws regarding the same should be more lenient, you should start from the point of view of the person immigrating.

  5. Keep facts and figures
  6. To explain the backstory to anything, especially a phenomenon as universal as immigration, you require statistics. In fact, numbers will help you back up most of the claims that you make in the paper. Therefore, include statistics in your introduction. There need not be details: those can be included later. Only include the figures of what you think are the most important points, and explain how you will expand on them later in the paper.

  7. Mind your tone
  8. It depends on whether you are writing a subjective or an objective report. An introduction in the passive voice will give you a more formal feeling, and prepare the reader for serious discussions. An actively voiced report can be more engaging, and can include various sources other than scholarly articles. These may have a huge impact on the subject matter.
